H20 Wireless and Red Pocket Mobile - Cellular Data Internet Setup Tutorial

this lens' photo
Is your iPhone giving you problems? If you do NOT require a jailbreak or unlock you can correct software quirks by doing a quick restore of your iPhone's Operating System (iOS) to factory settings. This will erase your jailbreak but it will also hopefully erase whatever software bug is in there that is giving you such a hard time. The bummer with performing this reset when using a prepaid carrier is that your internet will no longer work correctly. This happens because your default APN (Access Point Name) is changed shutting off your connection to cellular data.

Follow the steps outlined below and you can have your cellular data internet connection back up and running in no time!

Disclaimer - 3GS iPad Baseband Users should not follow this guide. Modem Firmware 6.15 is the iPad Baseband, you will run into a problem when restoring though iTunes. Please see our other tutorials for tips on how to handle this situation.

Red Pocket Mobile and H20 Wireless Customers

STEP ONE - BACK IT UP - Plug your iPhone into iTunes and back up your device. You can do this by right clicking on the iPhone that is in the left column and selecting "back up"

STEP TWO - PERFORM A DFU RESTORE - Once your backup is complete place your iPhone into DFU Mode by holding down on the home and power button for 10 seconds then releasing the power button without releasing the home button. Hold down the home button until iTunes states that your device is in recovery mode. DFU Mode is unique in that your scrteen will be black instead of showing a "connect to iTunes" screen
Youtube "DFU Mode" for timing if you are having trouble.

STEP THREE - RESTORE YOUR PERSONAL INFO - Once your operating system has been downloaded and installed it is time to put your information back onto the device. iTunes should prompt you to "restore from backup" which will automatically do everything for you. If you accidentally set it up as a new iPhone you can easily switch back to your device by right clicking on it and selecting "restore from backup"

STEP FOUR - CONNECT TO WIFI - After you have your Operating System restored and your information put back onto the device you should be able to transmit phone calls and text messages. If you are on Red Pocket Mobile or H20 Wireless you will notice that your internet still does not work. To correct this we will need to connect to a Wifi Signal. Connect your device to a wifi signal and proceed to the next step.

STEP FIVE - DOWNLOAD APN CHANGER - Now that you are connected to the internet via Wifi open up Safari and go to the following URL

www.Unlockit.co.nz

STEP SIX - CREATE CUSTOM PROFILE - Ignore the advertisements and scroll down to select "Continue" and then "Custom APN" to create the file we will need. On the next screen we will select our Country and Carrier. Lets assume we are in the United States, we will select the Carrier we are planning to use and "Create Profile"

STEP SEVEN - INSTALL CUSTOM PROFILE - Select Install and you will be good to go. If you encounter an error while trying to install the profile go back to www.Unlockit.co.nz and select "Disable Data(FakeAPN)" and then repeat steps Five and Six. If anything else goes wrong reboot your iPhone and try steps 5 and 6 again 8 )

STEP EIGHT - ENJOY YOUR DATA - 8 )

If these things helped why dont you let us know with a good review!?

Or, maybe your phone is broken. Maybe you dropped it, maybe your dog got a hold or it, or the daily standard, the girl/boy friend saw something on there they didnt quite like. As it stands, you've narrowed it down to 3 options:
- shell out $500 for a new phone,
- pay a repair shop an arm and a leg to get it repaired,
- or buy the parts yourself at a very low price and attempt the repair.
